Following the River Bed

When the rains came in late January, I could no longer follow the riverbed in Solvang and Buellton by walking over cracked soil, rough stones and what looked like vast fields of paper pulp.  So I hiked on the shoreline, east and then west of Alisal Bridge, where someone had made a beautiful curving "dam," single large stones across the small span of the river.

From the Santa Rosa Road Bridge in Buellton, what had been dust and dry weed was flush with water -- reflecting an early sun on its surface.
