We were determined to find all the fish passages along the river - these special structures that help the local steelhead find their way up to breeding areas. This was ‘hidden in plain sight’ just below the bridge to Jalama. It’s a verdant, quiet, cool and lovely spot. We saw turtles, small fry fish, frogs, birds, insects and wildflowers in this narrow canyon with water flowing through.

On view at Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum in “Rose Compass: Paintings of Santa Barbara’s Watershed”.
